rand’s esoteric otr on hiatus
As I mentioned in a post a few weeks ago, I have several things going on with my job and family. So I'm going to be stepping away from the blog for a time. I may be posting an occasional show or interesting recording, but not on a regular weekly schedule as I've done in the past.
I appreciate all the kind words, comments, and research folks have sent my way over the past couple of years. I'm still interested in pursuing old time radio research, and I'm thinking about heading in a different direction with my old time radio work, so feel free to send an email, if you're so inclined and are interested in talking over some ideas.

You have given us a lot, Rand. You have been very kind to me personally and helped me in my studies and, of course, have contributed much to the hobby. Take all the time you need and keep in touch. Best to the family.

Randy,
Thanks again for all the work you’ve done in researching and bringing back to life such great material, for all the work you did in trying to get transfers from my transcription discs, for the series you’ve sent me, for the insights in the conversations we’ve had, and mostly thanks for being a great guy. Once I get through the material I’m working on, I send an email… I’d like to see what your next project/direction will be.

This site has been one of the absolute highlights of our hobby. The OTR hobbyist’s inclination is to collect many shows at a time, and of popular series. I know — I’ve been doing exactly that for almost 40 years in this hobby. Rand’s work here has created a greater awareness for the obscure, the one-hit wonder, the unappreciated, the odd, and the unimagined variety that the golden age offered. It’s been a marvelous ride. If there’s anything that can be done to start the car up and get it back on the highway again, I’m sure I speak for others who would volunteer to pitch in.

You’ve left your footprints in the hobby’s sidewalk, Rand. Thanks for rescuing so many voices for the ages. I’d love to hear more about your future plans.

Ditto what the others have said here….this site is a highlight….all the odds and ends….stuff like the Kansas Farm Report and WEEI Job Center, the 1931 Sunkist broadcast etc. etc. etc. Thanks for everything so far!! I was amazed at the pace — posting weekly is a pace that is hard to sustain so I’m not surprised about slowing down.

Randy, thank you so much for sharing all these shows with us. Having collected radio shows for so many years it was rare to come across a series I had never heard of before. Until your blog!!! What a treat to find so many “new” obscure shows to listen to. I’ll miss being able to check in to see what new wonders you have for us. I wish you all the best and hope you’ll be back one day.

The day to day piece of these things can sure wear one down. You’ve made a difference and thank you for that. Thanks for the transfers and success in anything you try!

Thanks rand. I’ve got more than enough to last me a long time, having leeched vast amounts of your postings over the last few years in marathon downloading sessions. I hope everything works out well for you and your family and the job situation. I hope “I’m thinking about heading in a different direction with my old time radio work” means I will stumble across your fantastic weird stuff again.

Wow, I was searching for “Uncle Remus OTR,” and I’ve stumbled on a gold mine! I understand needing to back away from the blog a bit, outside of circumstances, since it looks like quite an effort. Let me thank you in advance for all the fine listening.
