We used to listen to this in around 1970. Our copy was on a cassette done by a comedian named Gene Tracy. You can still find it free for download if you search for "international Crepitation Contest".

Having grown up in home pervaded with flatulance and defecation humour (which is what happens when you have 3 brothers only a year or two apart in age), this felt highly familiar, it's something we could have easily made up as kids! Speaking from the female point of view (if there is such a thing), I didn't find this offensive at all.
I too agree that it must be "fenetre de breeze". The translation "zephyr window" is a literal translation in that a zephyr is a breeze. Part of the humour is the translation of an english word (breeze) used in a french term. Besides, "fenetre debris" would have had to be "fenetre de debris", and would have been translated to "offal window" or "trash window" or whatever, rather than "zephyr (ie. breeze) window".
There's my etymological dissertation of the day!

this is amazing and thanks so much for putting it online.
what strikes me is how humble they are in victory.
there isnt any patriotic bombast, these arent people celebrating their victory in war so much as an end to the war.
just amazing to listen to.

My dad (Chuck Daugherty) worked for WXYZ as an announcer from the '50's. I have many similar old records (and original tape recordings, studio vinyl recordings, sounds checks, and other stuff... Lone Ranger, Sergent Pepper of the Yukon and The Green Hornet cast studio bench). My dad is still alive and might be able to answer your questions about your recording.

Let me know if you need my help.

I have acquired three of the sunkist interviews with louella Parsons.
Norma Shearer, Ann Harding, and ruth chatterdon

All come with original mailing envelope and a 1 1/2 cent stamp. Did they produce more of these interviews? Anybody know

Oh good another episode of this series. I really liked the ones that Merle Oberon did.

Dr. OTR: You also might like the OTR series called "Anthology", which lasted 1 season in the mid 1950's, as well as "Moon River" and "Music and the Muse".

KGEI was not part of or owned by the Voice of America. It was from 1939-1945 a separate shortwave station owned, as it said, by General Electric. It was somewhat controversial in that for a while it was the only station in the U.S. providing a U.S. perspective to the Pacific. It was originally started to promote GE products overseas, but had no news editorial policy, so before the war broadcast isolationist such as Charles Lindbergh and others. But with the intervention of the Roosevelt administration, it convinced this private station to hire or carry broadcasts of commentator William Winters and took on a stance that Germany & Japan should not be allowed to expand their power of influence.

After the war, the station was purchased by the Far East Broadcasting Organization based in the Phillipines.

Never mind, I poked around and found two other eps you'd posted (#1 and 13 -- did I miss any? The http://randsesotericotr.podbean.com/category/words-with-music/ link only pulls up episode 1).

There's a long-running BBC programme called "Poetry Please" which features late-night readings of poetry. It's billed as the world's longest-running poetry request programme. You can listen to recent episodes here, but only for about a week after they're broadcast:

Wow, that is really ... relaxing. It would be perfect for late-night listening; not so good for rush-hour driving. Bob and Ray did their own take on this with Charles the Poet, who could never make it through a reading without giggling.

Do you have any more of these?

Thanks so much for this! I've really become a fan of Joan Davis' radio work, and this series was a lot of fun. It's light and fluffy -- perfect for late night listening when I'm doing the dishes. There were dozens of workaday comedy variety shows like this one that aren't very well remembered (and often don't aren't well represented among surviving shows), which is a pity because they reveal a lot about the character and values of the country at the time. So if you have any more WWII variety comedy shows, please post 'em!

It's appropriate Digger O'Dell appeared. He was played by John Brown, who had been a regular on Allen's show for at least ten years.
This was during the time Allen was pushing NBC to give Morgan his own show. Papers were speculating Allen was going to produce it.
Del Sharbutt is the announcer at the end.
Kenny Delmar must have enjoyed lampooning the Lucky Strike spot. He did them for a year on Benny's show then American Tobacco's agency fired him because they didn't like his sound. And he wasn't crazy about their hard sell.
Earl Wilson mentions his appearance on the show in his column of March 11, 1949.

I remember seeing a add in a old copy Weird Tales magazine promoting this show. The only other time I've seen it mentioned lately someone said that Robert Bloch was on board as writer or consultant for the series.
