American Family Robinson - New Series - Pgm 53

May 13th, 2010

Now we continue the story of the Robinsons in Birch Falls in "American Family Robinson - New Series", a serial syndicated by the National Industrial Council (ie, the National Association of Manufacturers) as a propaganda effort to promote pro-business government policies and to show how American business was prepared for the threat of war.

Transcription label

Pgm 53 was broadcast the week of July 21, 1940.  Luke's wife, Myra, is pursuing a career in radio and he's feeling neglected.  In this episode, Myra talks about the role of women in the home with the approaching War.  Luke arrives to propose a vacation away in the woods to calm his nerves.

The show was transferred from an original vinyl NBC Orthacoustic transcription, matrix number MS 051683-1A.

I’m not sure whether the actor playing Windy Bill is the same as in the 1935 series, but whoever he is, he definately seems to be channeling W.C. Fields. At about the same time (1940) Bill Thompson was doing the same as Horatio K. Boomer on Fibber McGee and Molly.
